SUMMARY:Columbia Chapter
DESCRIPTION:“Women’s Leadership Program”. By Brie Galareaux \nBrie Galareaux has attended the NSPE national conference and this year’s Women’s Leadership Program. This is the third year that NSPE has offered the WLP\, wrapping up the pilot program first imagined by Tricia Hatley. Brie participated in the first and third years\, making for a unique perspective as the program grew. \nThe program is an opportunity created by NSPE to support women engineering leaders. Come learn about the program and some of the ideas and lessons shared. The world benefits when we support each other! \nKey takeaways from the talk include developing one’s own leadership style\, and how to lead through supporting the growth of the teams you work in. \nDetails – and Location – https://conta.cc/4zHw9RU

SUMMARY:Columbia Chapter Program
DESCRIPTION:Understanding Motor Control: From Biology to Robotics\nNeural control of locomotion is a complex process of sensing\, processing\, and acting that is not well understood. Much of the control takes place in the spinal cord\, without significant intervention from the brain.\nPresented by:  Alexander Hunt\, Associate Professor\, Mechanical and Materials Engineering (Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science at Portland State University) \nClick here for more details and to register in advance.

SUMMARY:PEO Columbia Chapter Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, November 2\, 2021 Program “Hyster-Yale –Leveraging Limited PE staff to Develop EIT’s into PE’s”\n\nProgram Abstract:\nHow do you support and grow professional licensure within a large engineering community with a limited group of licensed engineering managers?\nMany companies hire young\, degreed engineers out of college. Often\, they may already be engineers-in-training (EIT)\, having passed the first hurdle on a journey towards professional licensure.  However\, the ability to achieve professional licensure varies between companies and even within individual companies due to staffing. OAR 820-010-1020\, “Education and Experience Requirements for Registration as a Professional Engineer\,” sets minimum requirements for experience under the direction and supervision of a registered professional engineer. This often prevents EIT’s from finding a path to their PE license.\nMeeting direction and supervision requirements had been a challenge for some of Hyster-Yale’s engineers at our Fairview\, OR development center. Many interested young engineers striving for professional licensure weren’t able to meet the minimum experience requirement due to our management structure. The Hyster-Yale engineering community and PEO collaborated on a solution that Hyster-Yale submitted to and received general support from OBSEELS Board.\nBy sharing the Hyster-Yale Group’s story\, you’ll learn about an alternate approach\, leveraging PE’s to develop engineers and promote licensure.\nClick Here to Register in Advance for this Meeting.
