Portland Water Bureau Filtration Project

The Portland Water Bureau is building a new filtration facility and pipelines comply with federal and state safe drinking water regulations and to further protect public health. The 135mgd facility includes a multi-barrier filtration treatment process that will make Portland’s system more resilient by removing Cryptosporidium and other potential disease-causing microorganisms, addressing impacts to the water supply that could result from a fire, landslide, or other natural disaster, and reducing disinfection byproducts. Bull Run Supply and Treatment Manager, Lyda Hakes, will discuss the design process and considerations needed to best protect against current and future water quality risks.
